Dear Residents,

Thank you for subscribing to the District 6 e-Newsletter.  The summer season is almost here and it’s important for parents to take all the necessary precautions to keep children safe in and around water. Miami-Dade County offers Learn-to-Swim classes for children (ages 2 and up) and adults, including those with disabilities. I have donated $2,000 to A.D. Barnes Park to pay for swimming lessons for children who reside in District 6 and qualify.

Additionally, the 2013 hurricane season begins June 1st. Making a hurricane plan ahead of time and stocking up on vital supplies will go a long way toward helping you and your loved ones stay safe in the event of a storm. View Miami-Dade County’s Hurricane Guide!

Mark your calendar for the upcoming Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners' meeting on Tuesday, June 18th, at 9:30 a.m. at the Stephen P. Clark Center. Please do not hesitate to contact my office at 305-267-6377 so that we can help you with any questions or concerns you may have. I wish you and your family a joyful Father’s Day!

Regards,

Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa

Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa
June 2013
A MOMENT IN COUNTY HISTORY

On May 21, 2013, Chairwoman Sosa hosted the first Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners’ meeting outside of County Hall. The off-site meeting took place at the South Miami-Dade Culture Arts Center where residents had the opportunity to meet their elected officials. This was an initiative of Chairwoman Sosa in order to bring government closer to residents.

CHAIRWOMAN SOSA'S SPONSORED LEGISLATION

I am dedicated to meet the needs and concerns of our residents by sponsoring legislative items that improve the quality of life in Miami-Dade County. Please visit my legislative archive page featuring all sponsored legislation, such as:

  • File #130943  -  Ordinance urging the Florida Department of Health, the Miami-Dade County Health Department, and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs to take necessary measures to ensure that establishments throughout Miami-Dade County that cook, prepare, and/or package food that is served to seniors, through adult nutrition service programs, are subject to frequent unannounced inspections and monitoring.

The ordinance will ensure that the services provided by these establishments are in accordance with Florida law, County ordinance, and minimum standards of hygiene. Chairwoman Sosa aims to continue protecting and promoting the health, safety, and general welfare of the elderly Miami-Dade County residents, many of which who rely on the adult nutrition service programs and are homebound, frail, or financially needy.
