DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The scope of this project is to repair sections of the existing steel columns exhibiting partial corrosion and to coat the entire steel structure of the truck-wash building located at the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Northeast Transfer Station.
The work includes, but may not be limited to, the following items:
• Removal and disposal of six (6) corroded column bases to approximately 2 feet above the top of concrete. Work includes cutting the existing anchor bolts flush with the concrete top and coating the exposed steel section with galvanized paint to avoid future corrosion. Work also includes the temporary removal of existing features currently supported onto the steel columns that fall within the repair limits.
• Furnishing and installing replacement steel stub columns. This includes all required tapered steel columns, plates, support angles, diagonal bracing, and bolts. It also includes reinstallation of existing features supported onto the steel columns within the repair limits, as well as installation of adhesive permanent concrete anchors and a grout pad using non-shrink grout.
• Fabrication and installation of bracket systems, per plans, for temporary support (shoring) of columns during base removal. Work includes all required temporary steel columns, beams, plates, support angles, diagonal bracing, and bolts. It also includes installation of adhesive concrete anchors and their complete removal, once the temporary support is removed. The holes remaining after anchor removal shall be filled with non-shrink grout. The temporary bracket is intended to support only one column at a time and to be reused for each column.
• Recoating of the building’s entire steel structure. This includes all corrosion-remediation work, including but not limited to surface preparation, grinding, sandblasting, welding, and painting. It also includes inspection for the presence of lead and lead abatement if lead is found.
• Repair of defects in the building structure discovered during performance of the work, including but not limited to repairs of corroded steel members with section loss.
• Preparation and submission of as-built documentation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Demolition debris shall be disposed of at a construction and demolition debris recycling facility.
• Contractor shall coordinate with the Owner to perform the Work in a manner that minimizes impacts to the truck-wash operation.
• All permits must be approved by the Owner prior to payment. Permit fees will be reimbursed to the Contractor by the County once proof of payment is provided.
