Miami-Dade Transit makes it faster and smarter to ride starting June 1

MIAMI ( May 25, 2021 )

In conjunction with the reinstatement of transit fares and parking fees on Tuesday, June 1, Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is making it easier for riders to use the system.

DTPW is introducing one tap rides for Metrorail. Starting June 1, when fares are reinstated, Metrorail riders will no longer need to tap out on faregate to exit the system. Use your contactless-enabled bank card, digital wallet, mobile pass, EASY Card, or EASY Ticket to tap in at any Metrorail station. When exiting, simply walk up to the fare gates, wait for the sensor to open the gate, and exit.

As Miami-Dade County continues to work to combat COVID-19, this new one-tap feature eliminates the need for riders to interact with the fare gates more than necessary and limit their contact with surfaces.

Additionally, new fare-capping options are available for riders.  Fare-capping guarantees a maximum cost of $5.65 per day for unlimited rides on Metrorail and Metrobus, which is equivalent to the cost of a 1-Day Pass.  Fare-capping was first introduced in August 2019, when the department launched contactless payment options. The option was only available for riders paying with their contactless-enabled bank cards or digital wallets. Now, riders who use EASY Cards (with stored value added) will have the benefit of having their daily fare capped after a certain number of taps.

Starting June 1, riders enrolled in special discount programs with a specially-coded EASY Card -- such as the K-12, Discount Fare, or Commuter Reduced Programs -- will also enjoy the benefit of fare capping. Discounted pass riders will be capped at $2.80 which is equivalent to the cost of a 1-Day Discount Pass.

For more information on special discounted passes or contactless payment options, visit miamidade.gov/transit. Manage your account online via the Transit Store or on the GO Miami-Dade Transit app.  Pre-load your EASY Card or purchase a mobile pass before getting to the station to save time while riding. Special Transportation Services (STS) customers are reminded that the Certification offices are open for recertifications by appointment only. Customers can continue to call 786-469-5000 or email [email protected] for assistance.

Miami-Dade Transit riders are reminded that the federal mask mandate remains in place and face masks remain a requirement while on board and waiting for your ride. Violators are subject to removal from the system.
