Applied Professionalism Leadership Program Miami-Dade Public Safety Training Institute (MDPSTI) recently implemented the first-ever Applied Professionalism Leadership Program for supervisors of both Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation (MDCR).
This in-depth program was designed to incorporate both universal and department-specific training concepts and procedures in a multi-module format. The modules are three days each and spread out over the course of six months, thereby minimally impacting workforce demands and officer-inmate ratios.
The program’s unique design delivers much needed training to supervisors who might be otherwise unable to leave their assignments for extended periods of time. In addition, the multi-agency approach to this training program also increases the classroom dynamic, and fosters a greater inter-agency understanding and cooperation.
Going Green with Technology The MDPSTI has utilized an electronic training needs assessment for MDPD for the past two years, creating a much more reliable system while at the same time reducing paper waste. Last year, the MDPSTI created, disseminated, and compiled the first ever MDCR online needs assessment survey produced by MDPD Computer Based Training staff in conjunction with MDCR training staff. The CBT Unit is also developing online segments for many Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) mandated training courses.
