Chairwoman Sosa joined Commissioner Esteban Bovo and Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez at the unveiling of Operation Pedro Pan Avenue located in the area of West 12 Avenue between 44th and 49th streets in the City of Hialeah.

The Miami-Dade Commission for Women commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act of 1963. The Act was the first federal law prohibiting sex discrimination and marked the first time that the federal government put the emerging issue of women in the workplace at the forefront of public consciousness.  The Act ranks as one of the most significant pieces of civil rights legislation of the 1960s along with the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The signing ceremony took place at Hialeah Gardens Elementary School, where Governor Scott was joined by Chairwoman Sosa, Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, school board members and students.

Chairwoman Sosa presented a proclamation honoring Dr. Richard Zakheim, founder of Miami Children’s Hospital’s Cardiology Department. The summit brought together major stakeholders, agencies, community and select national experts.

The City of Hialeah hosted the grand opening of Milander Center in Hialeah, located at 4800 Palm Avenue. Chairwoman Sosa attended the League Against Cancer’s 38th annual telethon at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition Center. She presented a donation check on behalf of Miami-Dade County and a proclamation honoring the organization’s president, Dr. Luis Villa, Jr., and its executive vice president, Adriana Cora.
