Internship Program

Four intern positions have been funded in FY 14-15. The internship year begins at the end of August and finishes on the last week of August, 2014. All interns are considered temporary Miami-Dade County employees.

Community Service Centers

Miami-Dade County has so much to offer families. You can receive free computer training classes, assistance with childcare, family support services, energy assistance, emergency food and shelter, and so much more. These and many more services are available at your Community Service Centers.

2015 CAHSD Scholarships

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) and the Community Advisory Committees (CACs) are accepting scholarship applications for the 2015 school year, beginning Monday, March 9, 2015 through Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. EST.  CAHSD, in conjunction with the CACs, are offering sixteen (16) $1,500 scholarships to deserving students who meet the eligibility requirements.

Apply for Medicaid

Medicaid provides medical coverage to low-income individuals and families. Medicaid eligibility in Florida is determined either by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) or the Social Security Administration (for SSI recipients). For more information on how to apply for these benefits, visit the DCF website or call (866)762-2237.

More than $290 million coming to Miami-Dade for Head Start/Early Head Start

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) will receive more than $290 million over a five-year period to continue to provide opportunities for low-income children and their families in Miami-Dade County. The 5-year non-competitive grant for Head Start/Early Head Start (HS/EHS), is in recognition of its performance in administering high-quality family, community and early childhood programs.

CAHSD receives $400,000 Grant to provide assistance to Victims of Human Trafficking

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department is the recipient of the highly competitive Services for Victims of Human Trafficking Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Victims of Crime (OVC). CAHSD will use the $400,000 award to provide coordinated advocacy services to victims of human trafficking through its Coordinated Victims Assistance Center (CVAC).


GMSC announced host of National ServiceWorks Program

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) Greater Miami Service Corps (GMSC) is pleased to be one of ten host locations for the ServiceWorks initiative.

ServiceWorks will demonstrate that service can be an effective strategy to level the playing field for low-income youth, not only by decreasing the opportunity gaps they face, but by also increasing the likelihood that they will stay in school and find good jobs.

Miami-Dade announces grand opening of Lillie M. Williams Head Start Center

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, District 2 County Commissioner Jean Monestime, and the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners and CAHSD announce the grand opening of the Lillie M. Williams Head Start Center.

2014 Involved Father of the Year

The Fatherhood Task Force of South Florida has recognized Mr. Esteban Campos as the 2014 Involved Father of the Year. CAHSD and the Head Start/Early Head Start Program congratulate Mr. Campos on his extraordinary achievement.

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) Project FACE (Family and Child Empowerment) participants joined local community-based organization, Moving the Lives of Kids Community Mural Project (MLK Mural), to create a mural at Brownsville Middle School.

CAHSD receives SHIP funds for rehabilitation projects

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) is the recipient of SHIP funds from the Florida Housing Finance Corporations to assist low-income residents with various housing needs. Through this program, Miami-Dade County residents may qualify for owner-occupied rehabilitation.

Head Start & Early Head Start Open Enrollment 2014 - 2015

Head Start Miami-Dade County's Head Start / Early Head Start Program is accepting applications for pregnant women and children ages birth to 4 years old to participate in the 2014-2015 program year.

To be eligible children must be three (3) or four (4) years of age on or before September 1, 2014, or no more than five (5) years old after September 1, 2014. 


CAHSD named Non-Profit of the Year

Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) is pleased to announce that CAHSD has been named Non-Profit of the Year by the South Florida Chapter of American Society for Public Administration.

CAHSD Director Lucia Davis-Raiford was honored at the ASPA Annual Award Ceremony held at Jungle Island.

Deputy Mayor Benford Visits with Children at Liberty Square

Miami-Dade County Deputy Mayor Russell Benford visited with the children attending Early Head Start classes at Easter Seals Liberty Square. Mr. Benford engaged in fun activities and storytelling with the young students.


Violence Intervention Conference held by Miami-Dade County

Men against violenceMiami-Dade County hosted a conference to facilitate a dialogue led by national experts in the field of violence intervention exploring ways in which men can become leaders in addressing violence in our community. 




Caring for the elderly -- "There's no place like home"

Olga Reinoso Olga Reinoso sits in her favorite chair and looks out the window at the children playing in the park across the street from her apartment.  At 84 years of age, Ms. Reinoso is one of many seniors and individuals living with a disability who rely on the Home Care Program provided by Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD).

Utility assistance available

Man and woman with bills Miami-Dade County is currently assisting individuals and families with paying their utility bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program assists individuals with paying their utility bills (gas and electric), individuals may qualify to receive up to $900.00 in assistance.
