Scholarships Now Available
Community Advisory committees will begin accepting applications for their annual scholarships in the amount of $1,500 in May of 2016. Scholarships are awarded to individuals that are currently enrolled in a college or vocational program, or have plans to attend college or a vocational school in the Fall of 2016.
Now accepting 2016 Summer Food Service Program provider applications
Applications for providers to offer free meals at their sites this summer are being accepted. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is completely free for providers and participating children under 18. All meals, hot and cold, are prepared using fresh, locally grown foods, and the menus are analyzed for their nutrient content.
CAHSD provides all participating providers with free nutrition education calendars filled with health nutrition articles, recipes for families and hands-on nutrition activities for children to try at sites and at home.
Head Start Program
Miami-Dade County's Head Start / Early Head Start Program enrolls eligible children annually. Children must be three (3) or four (4) years of age on or before the school year, or no more than five (5) years old.
Apply for Medicaid
Medicaid provides medical coverage to low-income individuals and families. Medicaid eligibility in Florida is determined either by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) or the Social Security Administration (for SSI recipients). More than $290 million coming to Miami-Dade for Head Start/Early Head Start
Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) received more than $290 million over a five-year period to continue to provide opportunities for low-income children and their families in Miami-Dade County. The 5-year non-competitive grant for Head Start/Early Head Start (HS/EHS), is in recognition of its performance in administering high-quality family, community and early childhood programs.
Utility assistance available
|Miami-Dade County is currently assisting individuals and families with paying their utility bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program assists individuals with paying their utility bills (gas and electric), individuals may qualify to receive up to $900.00 in assistance.|
