Community Service Centers

Miami-Dade County has so much to offer families. You can receive free computer training classes, assistance with childcare, family support services, energy assistance, emergency food and shelter, and so much more. These and many more services are available at your Community Service Centers.

Elderly Services

Miami-Dade County is a great place for seniors! There are a variety of programs and services available to help our elderly residents remain active, engaged, and improve their quality of life.

Summer Food Service Program

The Community Action and Human Services Department is now accepting applications for "Sponsor Sites" for its 2017 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). All applications must be submitted via fax, email or mail no later April 2, 2017.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free meals to children at participating sites located throughout Miami-Dade County during the summer. Community organizations are invited to apply.

The Head Start Annual Report is publisheded in accordance with the Head Start Reauthorization Act of 2007. It includes information about its programs and services.

Privacy Notice

The Community Action and Human Services understands that the information it collects about individuals and their health is personal. In accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Action of 1996 (HIPPA), CAHSD maintains the privacy of protected health information. CAHSD clients are apprised of their privacy rights at intake. Individuals visiting CAHSD sites will find HIPPA notices displayed in each office. CAHSD maintains a Confidentiality Policy that governs multiple aspects of client privacy. All staff is trained on this policy, as well as HIPPA.

Head Start Program

Head Start Miami-Dade County's Head Start / Early Head Start Program enrolls eligible children annually. Children must be three (3) or four (4) years of age on or before the school year, or no more than five (5) years old.


Apply for Medicaid

Medicaid provides medical coverage to low-income individuals and families. Medicaid eligibility in Florida is determined either by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) or the Social Security Administration (for SSI recipients). For more information on how to apply for these benefits, visit the DCF website or call (866)762-2237.

Utility assistance available

Man and woman with bills Miami-Dade County is currently assisting individuals and families with paying their utility bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program assists individuals with paying their utility bills (gas and electric), individuals may qualify to receive up to $900.00 in assistance.
