Head Start & Early Head Start Open Enrollment 2014 - 2015
Miami-Dade County's Head Start / Early Head Start Program is accepting applications for pregnant women and children ages birth to four (4) years old to participate in the 2014-2015 program year.
To be eligible, children must be at least four (4) years of age on or before September 1, 2014. For more information call 786-469-4622 or 3-1-1.
Apply for the 2014 Summer Food Service Program
The Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Department is accepting applications from community organizations to serve as Summer Food Service Program sites. The Program will operate from June -Aug. 15. Nutritious meals will be provided to all children 18 years and younger regardless of income, race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin.
The deadline to submit an application is April 30, 2014.
Annual Fearless Caregiver Conference
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren held its annual Fearless Caregiver Conference at the Florida International University Kovens Conference Center in North Miami. Attendees participated in array of informational sessions which provided guidance for families and professional caregivers.
Respite for Elders Living in Everyday Families volunteers were recognized Dec. 12
Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department’s Elderly and Disability Services Division will be recognized the Respite for Elders Living in Everyday Families volunteers at the Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza.
The Department thanked the 39 volunteers who from January through October 2013 provided 8,003 hours of service to the frail homebound elders of Miami-Dade County.
Turkeys were provided to community residents for Thanksgiving
Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Frankie Shannon Rolle Community Service Center partnered with Commissioner Xavier L. Suarez and the Miami Dolphins franchise to provide turkeys and all of the trimmings to community residents this Thanksgiving holiday.
To add a personal touch to this “gift of giving” former Miami Dolphin player Dick Anderson 1972, Nat Moore 1972 and Shawn Wooden 1996 participated in the activities.
National Weatherization Day
Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) celebrated National Weatherization Day on Wednesday, Oct. 30 by completing work on Eugenie Moreau’s home.
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) utilized funds received from the U.S. Department of Energy (DEO) to install energy efficient appliances. The home was also painted and landscaped as a result of CAHSD Home Beautification Program.
Annual "Fed-Ex Cares Day"
The event was aimed at enhancing the shelter to improve the quality of life of the participants. One hundred and twenty-seven (127) employees of Fed-Ex, Inc. participated as volunteers. Work was performed in the areas of painting, cleaning, landscaping, and interior decorating.
Violence Intervention Conference held by Miami-Dade County
Miami-Dade County hosted a conference on September 18, 2013 to facilitate a dialogue led by national experts in the field of violence intervention exploring ways in which men can become leaders in addressing violence in our community.
Liberty City Community Service Center temporarily relocated
The center is now located at 2500 NW 62nd Street, Miami, Florida 33147. The new telephone number for the center is 305-349-9982. The center will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Caring for the elderly -- "There's no place like home"

At 84 years of age, Ms. Reinoso is one of many seniors and individuals living with a disability who rely on the Home Care Program provided by Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD).|
Utility assistance available
|Miami-Dade County is currently assisting individuals and families with paying their utility bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program assists individuals with paying their utility bills (gas and electric), individuals may qualify to receive up to $900.00 in assistance.|
