The County Attorney’s Office has a diverse legal practice that includes such areas as commercial & construction litigation; real estate & commercial transactions; appeals; employment & labor law; ethics law; federal litigation; workers’ compensation; environmental, land use & zoning law; governmental affairs; eminent domain; bankruptcy; economic development; municipal finance; taxation; tort liability, medical malpractice as well as contract negotiation and drafting in a wide a range of areas. Our Office does not practice criminal law.

The size and scope of Miami-Dade County place the County Attorney’s Office on the leading edge of complex issues confronting our society in all areas of our practice. The Office is made up of a County Attorney, a First Assistant County Attorney, and approximately 70 Assistant County Attorneys. Lawyers in our Office have achieved academic success at the nation’s elite law schools. Many Assistant County Attorneys are former law clerks to federal and state trial and appellate judges, and many of our attorneys worked for major law firms or other government agencies prior to joining the Office.

Alumni of the County Attorney’s Office currently serve or have served as U.S. District Court Judges, Florida Court of Appeals Judges, Circuit and County Court Judges, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, members of the Florida Senate and House, the Broward County Attorney, School Board Attorney for Miami-Dade County, the City of Coral Gables City Attorney, members of the Florida Judicial Nominating Committee and as adjunct faculty at South Florida law schools. Office alumni also have served as president of the Florida Bar, the National Bar Association and other bar organizations.

The County Attorneys’ Office has a strong commitment to public service, both in the work we do and through community involvement and volunteer activities. Members of our office are active in the Guardian Ad Litem program, Voices for Children, Lawyers for Children America, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Florida, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Habitat for Humanity, among others.

Each attorney in the County Attorney’s Office is assigned his or her own cases and matters and has significant responsibility within the office. All attorneys are presented with the opportunity to assume responsibility in both litigation and non-litigation matters. The County Attorney’s Office thrives on an atmosphere of collegiality and cooperation, and we strongly encourage collaboration among peers. The Office has exceptionally low turnover, and as such, there is a wealth of legal experience and institutional memory among our attorneys.
