Jeff James serves as an Assistant County Attorney in the Tort & Medical Malpractice Litigation Section of the Miami-Dade County Attorney's Office, where he represents the County in state court litigation involving personal injury, premises liability, automobile negligence, wrongful death, negligent security, and other tort claims.

Prior to joining the County Attorney's Office, Jeff served as Associate General Counsel for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he represented one of the nation's largest school districts in a broad range of litigation and administrative matters. His practice included defending claims involving premises liability, automobile negligence, negligent security, wrongful death, construction-related disputes, and employment matters. He also represented the District in administrative proceedings involving personnel matters, procurement disputes, and bid protests, while advising District departments and committees on legal and policy issues.

Jeff began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in Miami-Dade County, where he represented individuals charged with felony offenses ranging from drug crimes to homicide. During his tenure, he managed a high-volume felony caseload and tried numerous jury and non-jury cases, developing extensive courtroom and trial advocacy experience.

In addition to his litigation practice, Jeff has served as an Adjunct Professor, Faculty Advisor, and Trial Team Coach at St. Thomas University College of Law for more than a decade. He has mentored hundreds of law students in trial advocacy and has coached multiple regional and national championship trial teams. In recognition of his commitment to advocacy education and student development, he has been honored with the Coach of the Year Award on six occasions.
