Miami-Dade & American Airlines Present: Our County, Our Country Art Competition

In honor of the United States Semiquincentennial, Miami-Dade County, through partnership with American Airlines, invites residents of all ages to submit original artwork celebrating our community's place in the American story. Through this competition, artists are encouraged to explore the theme We Are America: Miami's Place in the Nation's Story and reflect on the people, cultures, histories, and ideas that make Miami-Dade an essential part of the nation's past, present, and future.

Competition Rules

  • Open to Miami‑Dade County residents of all ages. Employees of Miami-Dade County or American Airlines are not eligible.
  • Artwork must be original and created solely by the artist.
  • Eligible mediums: 2‑D artworks on canvas, paper, or other comparable flat surfaces suitable for wall display.
  • Not permitted: AI‑generated art, digital art, photography, computer‑assisted work, or 3‑D/sculptural artwork. One submission per artist.
  • A photograph or video of the artwork must be uploaded with this application form.
  • Artwork dimensions must be 24" x 36."
  • Submission deadline: July 15, 2026.
  • Artists under 18 must have a parent or guardian complete and sign this application form.

Awards

Artwork will be judged in two (2) categories: (1) Youth (under 18) and (2) Adult (18+). Each artwork will be evaluated on relevance to theme, originality and creativity, artistic merit and technical quality, storytelling strength/emotional impact, and adherence to all competition guidelines. Winners will receive the following awards:

  • Youth Category Winner: 125,000 American Airlines AAdvantage Miles, artwork displayed at Miami International Airport, certificate from the Mayor, Miami-Dade 250 commemorative item
  • Adult Category Winner: 125,000 American Airlines AAdvantage Miles, Artwork displayed at MIA, certificate from the Mayor, Miami-Dade 250 commemorative item
  • 10 Finalists: Certificate of Appreciation signed by the Mayor and Miami‑Dade 250 commemorative item
