Commissioner Sosa presided over the first Miami-Dade County Performance and Efficiency Committee held on Tuesday, June 8th, 2010. The Committee is tasked with identifying inefficiencies in how County departments run and to improve any processes for better service for residents.

Laws Passed and Presented by Commissioner Sosa
  • Commissioner Sosa once against stands firm in favor of fiscal responsibility and accountability in government as she stated when voting against placing a pay increase for members of the Miami-Dade County Commission in the August 2010 ballot. The Commissioner believes this is not the appropriate time to have voters consider a pay raise for County Commissioners and believes the focus of government should be on strengthening our economy, identifying inefficiencies and reducing the deficit.

  • On Tuesday, April 20th, Commissioner Sosa presented a resolution opposing State of Florida legislation (SB 876 and HB 447) that would increase residential property insurance premiums, reduce hurricane mitigation credits, and possibly increase customers' out-of-pocket expenses associated with home damage.

  • In an effort to save tax dollars, Commissioner Sosa has proposed legislation that would cut the salaries of County retirees who seek re-employment with Miami-Dade County. The County Commission passed the Commissioner Sosa's resolution on April 6, 2010, requiring that these retirees seeking re-employment be subjected to the County's regular hiring process and, if hired, start at the applicable entry level salary.

  • Commissioner Rebeca Sosa is putting safety first by proposing new policies for Miami-Dade County parks aimed at reducing serious injuries in youth sports. The commissioner has authored a resolution requiring coaches of youth sports teams to immediately remove athletes from a game or practice if the athlete is suspected of sustaining a concussion. In addition, any child suspected of having a concussion cannot play on the team until cleared by a health care provider.
