The Zoning, Land Use & Environmental Section handles all of the County's federal and state litigation in that subject area, including considerable appellate litigation. The Section's lawsuits involve a broad array of constitutional issues, ranging from regulatory takings and freedom of speech and religion, to fair housing, equal protection and citizens' due process rights. Other cases entail federal, state and local environmental and land use regulatory enforcement. The Section drafts local land use and environmental programs and regulations that respect and preserve a community known for its natural resources, including two national parks, Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. The Section's lawyers also advise the local political bodies and quasi-judicial and advisory agencies that administer the County's overall land use and environmental program.
