The Public Health Trust Unit of the Section has primary responsibility for representing the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade County, which operates the Jackson Health System, including Jackson Memorial Hospital, Jackson South Community Hospital, Jackson North Medical Center, two nursing homes, twelve primary care clinics, eleven school-based health programs, seven clinics within the Department of Corrections and the Jackson Health Plan. The Unit serves in a general counsel's role to the Trust and Jackson Health System and handles a variety of issues concerning procurement of and contracting for public improvements, supplies, materials and services, Medicaid and Medicare, medical staffing (including credentialing and peer review), patient matters, research, medical records, managed care, estates and guardianship, personnel, and human resources. In addition, the Unit provides legal staff support to the Board of Trustees and its six standing committees, and the County's Trauma Advisory Board and other committees.
