Black Affairs Advisory Board Committees

The Black Affairs Advisory Board has several committees which are reflective of the issues and concerns of its residents. These committees are:

  • Black Heritage Planning
  • Education
  • Health Care
  • Housing
  • Crisis Intervention/Respect Life!
  • Economic Development
  • Budget & Finance
  • Social Media & Marketing
  • Legislative Affairs

Some of the activities of these committees include:  Black History Month events featuring a month-long celebration and award-winning exhibit in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center; Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. observance; the Annual Pillars Awards and Young Pillars Scholarship reception; the sponsorship of “Village Dialogues” which deal with education, health care, youth, elderly, domestic violence and preservation of health and financial assets.

The Board was also instrumental in creating the “Civil Citation” process, which helps juveniles to avoid becoming involved in the juvenile justice system.  A signature accomplishment was the establishment of the “Miami-Dade Coordinated Response Team (MDC-CRT) and its accompanying website:
