Volunteer Opportunities

The office of Community Advocacy is looking for volunteers to serve as liason between the Advisory Boards and the Miami-Dade County community at large.

Requirements:

All volunteer members must be permanent residents of Miami-Dade County. In addition, members should have demonstrated an interest in the field, activity or sphere covered by the board.

The primary consideration in appointing volunteer members is to provide the board with the needed technical, professional, financial, business or administrative expertise.

Please note: all volunteers must pass a background check, provided by Miami-Dade County.

Asian-American Advisory Board

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To assist in programs and services, and to coordinate the activities of governmental entities and nongovernmental agencies pertaining to the Asian community.
  • To recommend solutions to the social, economic, cultural and political problems in the Asian Community, as well as to serve as a liaison between the Asian community and the Miami-Dade County community at large.
  • To foster relationships with the public officials and maintain formal channels of communication so that Asian concerns are effectively transmitted and heard.

Black Affairs Advisory Board

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To assist in an advisory capacity to the County Commission, the County administration, and all agencies and persons in respects to matters pertaining to the Black community.
  • To help formulate and recommend plans and programs for coordination of the activities of governmental entities and nongovernmental agencies pertaining to the Black community.

Commission for Women Advisory Board

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To serve as an advisory capacity to the community and Miami-Dade County, in respect to all matters pertaining to the status of women, including but not limited to discrimination against women, employment of women, education of women, establishment of day care centers in the community, and attitudes towards women in the community, and to make periodic reports and recommendations to these bodies in respect of such matters.
  • To serve as a medium for responsible persons to utilize and consult with in attempting to understand and solve the many complex problems involved with dealing with the status of women.
  • To make findings and recommendations to the County Commission and the County administration regarding such matters as are presented to the Commission.

Community Relations Advisory Board

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To foster mutual understanding, tolerance, and respect among all economic, social, religious and ethnic groups in the County.
  • To act as conciliator in controversies involving community relations.

Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To assist in formulating and recommending plans and programs for coordination of the activities of governmental entities and nongovernmental agencies pertaining to the Hispanic community.
  • To assist the Board during complex problems involved with the Hispanic community in Miami-Dade County and to make findings and recommendations to the County Commission regarding such matters.
