Swimming Pool Barriers

The Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources is charged with the responsibility to uniformly enforce the Florida Building Code.

Barriers are for safety and come in the form of:

  • screened-in patios
  • wooden or wire fences
  • rock or concrete block walls
  • other types

All new construction of public swimming pools, spas and hot tubs shall be provided with a permanent barrier complying with the following:

  • The top of the barrier shall be at least 48 inches above grade measured on the side of the barrier that faces away from the swimming pool.
