Vehicles for Sale on Residential Property

Vehicles can be displayed for sale in unincorporated Miami-Dade County residential districts, but certain conditions must be met.

Sign and display requirements

  • Affixed to the vehicle must be a valid state license plate issued for the vehicle and a valid Certificate of Use (CU). The CU is available online for a fee of $36.70 plus an 8% zoning surcharge fee.
  • A vehicle affixed with a lost tag may be displayed for no more than 10 days, and the vehicle registration must be affixed to the rear window
  • The vehicle displayed for sale must be registered to a resident of the premises where it is displayed
  • No more than one sign can be displayed on the vehicle. The sign shall be no larger than 8 inches by 12 inches

Frequency of sales

  • Only one vehicle may be displayed for sale at any one time
  • No more than two vehicles may be sold at any property per year

Vehicles allowed for sale

All vehicles must comply with the storage requirements specified in the Miami-Dade County Code of Ordinances.

  • Automobiles
  • Motorcycles
  • Recreational vehicles
  • Utility trailers
  • Trailers for transporting boats or off-road vehicles
  • Boats
  • Trucks

Enforcement

Illegal displays of vehicles for sale are subject to the issuance of a Courtesy Warning Notice.

Both the tenant and property owner may receive notices in connection with enforcement. However, the property owner is ultimately responsible for compliance.

Failure to comply will result in a ticket to the property owner and tenant, in accordance with Chapter 8CC of the Miami-Dade County Code of Ordinances.

Ticket amounts with description of violation:

  • Unlawfully displaying a vehicle or boat for sale without a certificate of use.
    • First Offense - Warning
    • Second Offense - $100
    • Third or More Continuing Violations - $250
  • Failure to properly display certificate of use for sale of vehicle or boat.
    • First Offense - Warning
    • Second Offense $50
  • Unlawfully displaying a vehicle or boat for sale without a valid state license plate or registration decal affixed to the vehicle or boat.
    • First Offense - $100
    • Second or More Continuing Violations - $500
  • Displaying for sale in a residential district more vehicles or boats than allowed.
    • First Offense - $250
    • Second or More Continuing Violations - $500
