The Water Remetering Program (WRP) is a conservation mechanism based on an ordinance approved by the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners in September 1996. It allows for the remetering of individual apartments and units in multi-family dwelling complexes and commercial properties where the individual tenants pay directly for the amount of water they use. Through the investigation of consumer complaints, the program ensures that users are fairly charged, and that billing practices are just and reasonable. The program is limited to properties served by the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department.
Properties that have been remetered and companies that bill remetered properties are required to register with the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER). Enforcement officers protect the rights of all the parties by ensuring that the regulations (Water Remetering Ordinance 96-137) are followed.
