Housing Advocacy Action Committee

Locate resources and develop strategies to implement solutions that improve housing conditions and promote homeownership for low-to-moderate income residents and in underserved neighborhoods.

Committee Purpose:
The purpose of the MDEAT Housing Advocacy Committee will be to discuss issues that impact affordable housing and affordable housing availability in the Miami-Dade County market and determine feasible solutions that can be acted upon.

Individuals representing mortgage lenders, real estate professionals, housing development and subsidy program providers will engage in problem solving sessions to identify and implement strategies to address the barriers affecting affordable housing needs of low to moderate income families and housing supply vs. demand issues and alternatives.

The Housing Advocacy Committee has three sub-committees: Resource Committee, Public Relations, Marketing and Outreach Committee, and the Pre-Purchase and Affordability Committee. The following is a description of three sub-committees that have been formed:

Resource Committee

Conduct an assessment of what is available to Miami-Dade County residents, housing counseling agencies, real estate and mortgage industry professionals interested in obtaining or assisting clients with access to affordable housing and Downpayment Assistance Programs (DAP’s or DPA’s) addressing…

  • Who are the Agencies and what to they offer?
  • Create a “Resource and Services” Chart

Public Relations, Marketing and Outreach Committee

Create a consistent source of information for the public to access, deliver information via media and outreach symposiums, seminars and workshops, coordinate with Miami-Dade County (e.g. 311 Information Hotline) to generate and/ or serve as an information source.

Pre-Purchase Affordability Committee

Assess methods used to help LMI buyers maximize the current affordability trend, seek potential alternatives that break barriers that impede potential qualifying borrowers, access remediating agencies (including but not limited to regulatory, legislative and Mortgage Fraud Task Force) to prevent real estate and mortgage scams, and evaluate current Homebuyer Education methods, seek and design alternative methods, assess current and possible legislation regarding Homebuyer Education mandates.
