Through the Community-Based Organization (CBO) Grant Program, administered by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Miami-Dade County allocates more than $15 million annually to support a broad range of human and social services delivered by nonprofit CBOs. Valuable partnerships: CBOs are valued as partners for their ability to reach residents and deliver impactful services, share insights and expertise, give voice to the challenges faced by local families, and mobilize resources. Day-to-day, residents benefit from CBO services delivered in homes, schools, community centers, churches, parks and more. When a resident is in crisis, a neighborhood-based CBO may be their most trusted source of information, assistance, and access to other connections. Collectively, CBO efforts to serve individuals add up to major contributions to community-wide prevention and problem-solving efforts. A strong CBO network complements the work of the County and major institutions within critical sectors and systems (e.g., the health system, education system, law enforcement and the courts, systems of care for foster care, aging, mental health, and more). County investments in CBOs support jobs and our economy. Additionally, CBOs mobilize significant financial resources, volunteer time, and donated goods and services. All add value to County investments in human and social services. Custom Competitive Grant Process for CBOs The CBO Grant Program is one of multiple ways CBOs may access financial support from Miami-Dade County. Allocations through this program are achieved with open and competitive grant processes. Processes adhere to current priorities for human and social services. CBOs are invited to submit applications for funding aligned with priorities. The details of each process are provided in the implementing orders and process-specific guidance documents approved by the Board of County Commissioners. The next cycle of grant funding is anticipated to begin Jan.1, 2025. Prior to that, grant process number CBO2425 will be implemented for selection of grantees. CBO Grant Process for Human and Social Services (CBO2425) <ul> <li><a href="/global/management/community-based-organization-grant-program.page">Grant information page</a></li> </ul> Among the broader requirements for CBO2425, the application is designed for CBOs to define their target population, specify the needs and gaps in services, state the case for why County funds are needed, and propose a detailed program model to address those needs. CBOs must also share information about their capacity to implement the program and achieve results. They must include detailed program budgets, program staffing plans, organizational financial information, and more. Multiple steps are involved in determining the applications to be advanced for recommended funding. Among them, evaluation and selection committees review and rate applications according to published evaluation criteria – and each application is rated by multiple reviewers. Organizational reviews are conducted, past contract performance is considered, and more. The Board of County Commissioners considers funding recommendations and determines final grant awards.
