Moving

All movers providing local moves within Miami-Dade, or between Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach counties, must be registered with Miami-Dade County.

  • Unless the move is to take place in less than 72 hours after the prospective client contacts the mover, there must be a written estimate.
  • The mover must also provide each client with a copy of the Tri-County Moving Consumer Bill of Rights and Disclosure Statement.
  • Written contracts, which must have the final costs, are required for all moves. Final charges cannot exceed the estimate by more than 10%.
  • Movers must provide, at minimum, insurance coverage of 60 cents per pound of article. Consumers have 60 days to file a claim with the mover.
  • Intrastate and interstate moves are not regulated.

Fees

Fee Schedule 
Cash will not be accepted. The non-refundable fees can be paid by check, money order or cashiers check made payable to the Miami-Dade County. If renewing in person, the renewal fee can be paid by credit card (MasterCard or Visa).

Change of Ownership

In the event of a change in ownership of a moving business, a new application and fee is required. Corporations that have a change of 10 percent or more of its ownership shall notify the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department of the change no later than 30 days after the date of the change.

Business Changes

Changes in any material aspect of the moving business shall be provided to the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department in writing along with proof of the change and the required fee, if replacement of the registration is required, within 30 days of the change.

Initial Application

How to Apply

Any person(s) or corporation that operates a moving business located in Miami-Dade County and that transports household goods originating in Miami-Dade County and terminating in Miami-Dade County, Broward County or Palm Beach County, or originating in Broward County or Palm Beach County and terminating in Miami-Dade County must register.

Initial applicants must apply in person Monday through Friday (except holidays) 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Bring with you:

  • Completed Moving Business Initial Registration Application (application in Español)
  • Copy of current, permanent Occupational License
  • Articles of Incorporation/Fictitious Name Registration
  • Certificate of insurance to include General Liability, Motor Vehicle Liability
    ($50,000 combined single limit for vehicles with GVW of 35,000 lb. or less; $100,000 combined single limit for vehicles with GVW in excess of 35,000 lbs.) and Cargo Liability (valuation of $10,000 combined single limit minimum with 60 cents per lb. per article)
  • Workers’ Compensation Certificate or affirmation
  • Copy of contract for service (bill of lading), Moving Consumer Bill of Rights and Disclosure Statement on Mover’s letterhead and any other document or form used when dealing with the public with respect to the shipment of household goods.

If the application process is not completed within 60 days from the date that the application was filed with the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department, the application will be considered abandoned and closed and a new application and fee will be required.

Renewal

How to Apply

Any person(s) or corporation operating a moving business located in Miami-Dade County that transports household goods originating in Miami-Dade County and terminating in Miami-Dade County, Broward County or Palm Beach County, or originating in Broward County or Palm Beach County and terminating in Miami-Dade County whose current registration is expiring must renew at least 30 days prior to the expiration of current registration.

Apply n person from Monday through Friday (except holidays), 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or by mail.

Submit:

  • Completed renewal application
  • Copy of current, permanent Occupational License

Late Applications

A late fee will apply to renewal applications submitted after the expiration of the current registration. The late fee is in addition to the renewal fee.
