Services for Adults

Sport Programs for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

All of these Adult leisure access services take place in A.D. Barnes Park and require pre-registration. For more information please call 305-665-5319.

Adult Day Training

The Leisure Access Center offers adults ( 21+) with developmental disabilities a meaningful day of activities through the Adult Day Training Program (ADT), funded by the Medicaid Waiver. Participants are engaged in activities that focus on improving independence, self advocacy, fitness, nutrition awareness, and community and socials skills.

  • Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m, year round

Swim Team

A certified Red Cross certified Water safety instructor teaches swim participants ages 21 and older with developmental disabilities to improve stroke techniques & prepares participants for Special Olympics competitions. Basic swimming skills are required.

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5 - 6 p.m.

Basketball Team

Adults 21 years and older with developmental disabilities learn a variety of sports such as Basketball, Bowling, Track & Field, and prepare to compete in Special Olympics.

  • Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 - 6 p.m., $40.00 per month

Saturdays in the Park (SIP)

Adults 21 years and older with developmental disabilities will be engaged in social programs with community outings during which they will work on life, social and safety skills.

  • Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., $30.00 per week

Fun on Friday (FOF)

Adults 21 years and older with developmental disabilities will be engaged in social programs with community outings during which they will work on life, social and safety skills.

  • Fridays from 6 - 10:30 p.m., $25.00 per week

Services for Adults With Physical & Visual Disabilities

  • Wheelchair Basketball Team - Miami Springs Rec. Ctr.
    Time: TBA Contact: Jody Cox, 305-234-1673
    Description: This is a competitive team environment for adults with physical disabilities.  The season starts in August and ends in February.
  • Wheelchair Tennis - Big 5 Tennis Club
    Saturdays  9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Contact: Jody Cox, 305-752-4966
    Description: This program is designed for adults with physical disabilities focusing on tennis instruction for the adult.
  • Fitness Swim
    Contact:  Belinda Phillips, 305-266-1622
    Description: This program is designed for ages 14 and up with physical or visual disabilities focusing on learning to swim for health and fitness.
