Most Miami-Dade County pools have summer swim teams. This is a great way for children to be introduced to the sport of swimming in a low key competitive setting. Miami-Dade Parks swim teams stress stroke improvement, team building and fun. The summer swim team season is highlighted by the Countywide Swimming Champion Meet at Tamiami Pool in August.
The Metro Aquatic Club at Tamiami Pool
11201 SW 24 Street,
Tamiami Pool is home of the Metro Aquatic Club, a year round community based organization which recruits young swimmers on a Countywide basis, trains them for a modest membership fee, and holds swim competitions against other clubs, on a local, state and regional level. If you're a swimmer, and would like to swim against the best, call to find out how you can join the Metro Aquatic Club.
Swimming Lessons (Ages 3-5)
This course is designed to help children, ages 3-5, become comfortable in and around the water. This class provides parents with information and techniques to help orient their children to the water and to supervise later activities in a safe manner.
A parent or guardian is required in the water with each child. Basic skills are learned first. Once learned, the instructor will build on them to increase the child's endurance and teach new aquatic skills appropriate for the child's age and readiness.
- For more information call 305-665-1626. To register, please contact the pool of your interest.

Amateur Boxing Program
Established in 1978 under the leadership of former amateur and professional boxer Dwaine Simpson, the Miami-Dade Parks Amateur Boxing Program has introduced thousands to the Olympic sport.
The program is offered to participants from ten years of age and older and is geared to teach boxing for physical fitness and for competition, if desired. We also provide a Women in Boxing Program for those interested. Approximately 70% participate only for exercise and conditioning. Over 13,000 members have registered in our amateur boxing program. Only 2% of our participants choose to become professional boxers. When they do, we see that they are directed toward the proper management and training.
The Tropical Park Boxing Center and the 27th Avenue Boxing Center are both fully staffed and equipped to teach the fundamentals of amateur boxing. Each center has qualified coaches and equipment to satisfy all amateur participants.
