Strategic Plan -- Ideas. Goals. Results.
Increasingly, governments are faced with the challenge of "doing more with less." Tax dollars are finite, and yet they need to be allocated where they are needed most. A strategic plan developed in concert with the people we serve helps us allocate limited resources to the programs and services that matter most to our residents.
The strategic plan helps guide management and employee decision-making towards our shared priorities. The plan also provides the measuring sticks we need to determine if Miami-Dade County government is fulfilling its goals. Strategic planning also provides for government accountability and continuous improvement.
Simply stated, a strategic plan serves as the community's roadmap that will take us from where we are today to where we want to go in the coming years.
The foundation of strategic planning are the statements we make that describe who we are, where we want to go, and how we will strive for our goals. They include:
- Vision Statement
- Mission Statement
- Value Statements
Miami-Dade County's Strategic Plan is the cornerstone of our results-oriented government. Budget decisions are based on the priorities identified through our strategic planning process. Each department develops a Business Plan that outlines how their key activities will support Strategic Plan priorities.
The Strategic Plan is divided into six service delivery areas, all of which support the overall County mission statement.
- Neighborhood and Infrastructure
- Public Safety
- Recreation and Culture
- Health and Human Services
- Economic Development
- General Government
