Miami-Dade County's Living Wage

Miami-Dade County established the Living Wage to ensure that workers on covered County contracts can support themselves and their families above the poverty line and with dignity.

The Living Wage applies to:

• County service contracts worth more than $100,000
• Concessionaires at Miami International Airport

In 2021, a Paid Sick Leave requirement was added for workers on County security services contracts valued over $100,000. Workers on these contracts must receive either:

• One hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, or
• At least 56 hours of paid time off each year 

These requirements are part of Sections 2-8.9 and 2-8.11 of the Miami-Dade County Code.

As of Sept. 30, Florida law, Section 218.077, prevents the County from requiring Living Wage or Paid Sick Leave on new contracts. Contracts awarded before that date are not affected.
