The Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office represents all aspects of Miami-Dade County government, including the Mayor and the 13-member Board of County Commissioners, the Property Appraiser, County departments and numerous boards, authorities, councils and commissions.
Attorneys in the County Attorney’s Office work closely with the Board of County Commissioners and staff, the Mayor’s Office, and various County departments to research, draft, review and approve for legal sufficiency all of the ordinances and resolutions that are initiated by Commissioners, and review for legal sufficiency all ordinances and resolutions that are initiated by County departments. Attorneys also represent the County in all litigation and transactions involving the County. Attorneys are involved in a diverse legal practice including such areas as commercial & construction litigation, real estate & commercial transactions, employment & labor law, constitutional law, ethics law, federal and state trial and appellate work, workers’ compensation, environmental, land use & zoning law, governmental affairs, eminent domain, bankruptcy, economic development, municipal finance, taxation, tort liability, competitive bidding, medical malpractice as well as contract negotiation and drafting in a wide a range of areas.
The Office represents Miami International Airport, one of the nation's busiest airports, PortMiami, the world's largest passenger seaport, the Public Health Trust, which operates Jackson Memorial Hospital the largest teaching hospital in the Southeast U.S., Metrorail and Metromover, a billion dollar rapid transit system, ZooMiami, a world class zoo, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and several art and history museums. To accomplish the breadth and scope of the work the Office handles, the Office is organized into twelve sections, with many attorneys serving in more than one section. Each section is overseen by a section head who, in addition to handling their own cases, is responsible for the administration of the section and assigning and monitoring of other attorney’s cases.
