International Trade & Commerce
International trade plays an important role in the economy of Miami-Dade County. It supports over 105,000 jobs and remains not only one of our key industries, but also one of the industries with the highest paying wages in our community, according to an economic study conducted by Strategic Information Analysis, Inc.
South Florida’s total merchandise with the rest of the world has more than doubled over a decade from $49.70 billion in 2002 to an historic record of $112.82 billion in 2011. The Miami Customs District 52 also maintained its standing as the 11th largest U.S. Customs District, and it set a new national record for trade surplus of $25.70 billion.
The goal of the International Trade Promotion Unit is to solidify Miami-Dade County’s position as a world class center of international trade. Our strategy is to promote international trade by emphasizing the County’s unique combination of assets – its geography, superior infrastructure, business climate, and access to financial services, to the worldwide trading community, and to help local companies’ access global markets.
A significant portion of the Economic Development and International Trade unit's program activities revolve around the implementation of a program to promote Miami-Dade County as a Global Gateway and trade destination center. To that end, we aggressively pursue inbound and outbound trade missions.
