International Trade & Commerce

International trade plays an important role in the economy of Miami-Dade County. It supports over 105,000 jobs and remains not only one of our key industries, but also one of the industries with the highest paying wages in our community, according to an economic study conducted by Strategic Information Analysis, Inc.

Miami Customs District #52 (South Florida’s) total merchandise with the rest of the world has more than doubled over a decade from $65.9 billion in 2005 to $116 billion in 2014. According to World City’s 2015 Miami Trade Numbers, “Miami was the No. 12th ranked Customs District in 2014…The Miami Customs District accounted for 2.92% of all U.S. trade in 2014, for 75.66% of all Florida’s trade in 2014.” South Florida’s trade surplus amounted to $15.05 billion in 2014, it remains one of a very few District that continues to enjoy a trade surplus among other Customs Districts in the U.S.

The goal of the International Trade Promotion Unit is to solidify Miami-Dade County’s position as a world class center of international trade. Our strategy is to promote international trade by emphasizing the County’s unique combination of assets – its geography, superior infrastructure, business climate, and access to financial services, to the worldwide trading community, and to help local companies’ access global markets.
