The 2012 Kids Poster Contest is here!
The Every Drop Counts Kids Poster Contest is back! Miami-Dade County elementary school students are invited to spread the message of water and energy conservation using their artistic talents.
Participating students will receive a t-shirt featuring D-rop, Miami-Dade County's Water Conservation representative, and their work will have a chance to appear in the Every Drop Counts calendar.

Sign up for a rain barrel workshop
Rain barrels are clever, practical and environmentally-friendly devices that are great for storing rainwater that can be used to water lawns. Rainwater is richer in nutrients than water from the faucet -- and saves from having to waste that extra water. Attend the next Miami-Dade County rain barrel workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 11th at the Miami-Dade County Extension Office. It's always a good time to make sure your irrigation system timer is set correctly - and that it follows Miami-Dade County's permanent landscape irrigation restrictions.
If you have a mechanical timer, check out these tips and instructions from the Miami-Dade Cooperative Extension Service's Urban Conservation Unit.
Remember that landscape watering is limited to twice a week on specific days, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., depending on the address of the home and business. Read more about our water restrictions.
Water-Use Efficiency Plan
The average person in Miami-Dade uses 158 gallons of water a day. Almost half of that total is used outside the home, often wastefully, to maintain landscapes.
Developing efficient practices and using water wisely to enhance our life can help our community avoid, or at least lessen, the likelihood of future water shortages.
With the 2006 adoption of the Miami-Dade Water Use Efficiency Plan by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, educating our residents on how to use water more efficiently will help preserve these resources for future generations and will reduce future water and wastewater infrastructure costs. Join us in our commitment to the protection of our most precious natural resource.
Miami-Dade County is a participant of the Florida Department of Environmental Resources’ Conserve Florida Initiative and is a partner of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense Program.
