Update on NW 87th Avenue Roadway Improvement Project

As part of the NW 87th Avenue Roadway Improvement Project, the installation of a 36” water main and the replacement of a 47” x 71” culvert crossing for the NW 170 St Canal are required at the intersection of NW 87th Avenue and NW 170th Street.  In order to minimize traffic impacts, the intersection work began on June 9th, 2014, at the end of the 2013-14 school year, and every effort has been made to complete this work by August 15th, 2014, prior to the beginning of the 2014-15 school year. Unfortunately, due to the inordinate amount of unforeseen underground utility conflicts encountered, the work has been delayed and the opening of the intersection prior to the start of the upcoming school year will not be achieved.  As such, and for the continued safety of the public, the existing/approved Maintenance of Traffic Plan, along with all current detours, will need to remain in place.  The current timeline for the opening of this intersection is projected for November 15, 2014, excluding any additional unforeseen setbacks.

For more information, please contact the office of Commissioner Bovo Jr. at 305-820-8424.

Your voice can be the difference in a child's life!

The Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program is looking for volunteers to give the children in their program a voice. The GAL program provides each child in their Program with a specially trained volunteer who visits them monthly, develops a relationship with them, and then goes to court with one of our program attorneys to lend them their voice. Volunteers can give children in need a brighter future by giving their time, and making sure that they are denied no opportunity because of situations beyond their control.
