Miami-Dade is one of 16 counties in the South Florida Water Management District, which along with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, regulates the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s (WASD) water supply and water quality. Miami-Dade’s drinking water meets or exceeds all federal and state drinking water standards, as reported in WASD’s Annual Water Quality Report. WASD ensures the drinking water provided to more than 2 million residents is safe and treated regularly. It’s also inexpensive – so refill your bottle with ease!
Residents have also shown great commitment to conserve our precious water resources, resulting in an unprecedented decline in consumption from 158 to 134 gallons per capita per day over the last five years. Implementing efficient practices for the wise use of water can enhance our quality of life and help our community lessen the impact of future water shortages.
By improving water use efficiency, we can meet future water demands without causing harm to our resources, and will defer or reduce future infrastructure costs. For Miami-Dade County, conservation has proven to be the most economically feasible water supply source.
WASD is also developing Alternative Water Supplies (AWS) – including Aquifer Storage and Recovery systems for storage of water during wet periods and subsequent use in the dry season. A High Level Disinfection project is also being constructed at the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant to provide highly treated wastewater for industrial reuse.Back to Top Page Last Edited: Fri Aug 9, 2013 12:33:36 PM
