Miami-Dade County is one of 16 counties within the South Florida Water Management District, which along with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, regulates the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s (WASD) water supply and water quality. Miami-Dade’s drinking water meets or exceeds all federal and state drinking water standards, as reported in WASD’s Annual Water Quality Report. In addition, WASD ensures the drinking water provided to Miami-Dade County residents is safe and treated regularly. It’s also inexpensive, compared to the cost of bottled water.
Residents have also shown great commitment to conserve our precious water resources resulting in a decline in consumption from 158 to 141 gallons per capita per day. Implementing efficient practices for the wise use of water can enhance our quality of life and help our community become more resilent in the face of drought, climate change and sea level rise.
By improving water use efficiency, we can meet future water demands without causing harm to this resource, and will defer or reduce future infrastructure costs. For Miami-Dade County, conservation has proven to be the most economically feasible water supply source.
Miami-Dade County has developed a comprehensive water conservation program providing financial rebates to residents and businesses that install high efficiency fixtures. Free site visits and financial rebates are also provided to property owners that improve their landscape irrigation systems to be more water efficient.
