The Urban Fellows Program

The Urban Fellows Program aims to enrich the learning experiences of graduate students by exposing them to Miami-Dade County’s urban government, with over 25 departments and 27,000 employees.  The non-paid, 15-week work experience will give graduate students the unique opportunity to work on special projects that will impact the efficiency of our operations, the economic development of our county, and in the end, the well-being of our residents.

Miami-Dade County is committed to the development of future civic leaders, and through the Urban Fellows Program the County anticipates attracting dedicated and innovative students who will make a difference in Miami-Dade County.

Purpose:

The Urbans Fellows Program aims to enrich graduate student’s learning experience by introducing them to Miami-Dade County’s government in action.  Students will participate in well-planned and organized projects that match their educational objectives, and in turn provide the county with a quality research and suggestions.

Summary:

The Urban Fellows Program provides a non-paid, 15-week graduate level internship opportunity for selected candidates.  Participants are assigned to a specific project and will have the leadership of a project supervisor, a member of senior management, who will guide them as they complete their assignment and learn more about their respective department.  Special projects for this program are in constant development.  Flexible hours will be accommodated to suit participant’s class schedules.

Status:

While in the Urban Fellows Program, participants will be considered executive interns, assigned to special projects for 15 weeks.  This is a non-paid, for credit only internship program.

Program Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above
  • 25 hours per week – flexible schedule

Application Process:

  • Submit a copy of resume
  • Submit two letters of reference from professors
  • Provide a copy of graduate transcripts (unofficial transcript is accepted)
  • Telephone screen interview with Coordinator
  • Interview with Selection Committee
  • Must pass the background check
