Prevention and Community Outreach
JSD provides outreach and prevention services to residents in the Miami-Dade community. The goal is to educate the public on the Department, services provided to the community and elicit proactive responses to strategies that address violence in Miami-Dade County, particularly as it affects the youth. The prevention services component intervenes in the lives of at risk youth and their families to provide services and resources that will keep these youth from entering the juvenile justice system.
Check out these resources related to juvenile justice, legal services, law enforcement, education, social service providers and additional criminal/juvenile justice resources.
Miami-Dade Anti-Gang Strategy
The Miami-Dade Anti-Gang Strategy was born out of the 2008 South Florida Anti-Gang Summit where 175 national gang reduction experts, Federal, State and local criminal justice personnel, socio-economic service providers, faith- and community- based organizations, and former gang leaders convened to focus on core gang issues and outline strategies to address those issues. The summit led to strategic planning of the goals and objectives in effective evidenced-based practices.
The Miami-Dade County Prevention Initiative is designed for any youth 17 years of age and under who may be experiencing behavior and family difficulties, as well as those at risk of being arrested.
Violence Intervention Project
The Violence Intervention Project (VIP) being implemented by the Juvenile Services Department creates a strategic, ongoing, public outreach campaign that addresses the devastating violence plaguing our communities.
The Miami-Dade County Youth Commission was created by County Ordinance in 2011 as part of the vision of Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan, District 1. Its purpose is to provide young people with a vehicle to participate in the process of County government.Back to Top Page Last Edited: Fri May 17, 2013 10:18:49 AM
