For-Hire Transportation

The Passenger Transportation Regulatory Division regulates for-hire chauffeurs and vehicles to include taxicabs, limousines, passenger motor carriers, jitneys, tour vans, special transportation service vehicles, non-emergency transportation services and private ambulance services. The Division also inspects for-hire transportation vehicles and private school buses at the County’s For-Hire Vehicle Inspection Station. The Division provides licensing training for new and renewing for-hire chauffeurs.

2018 Luxury Limousine Sedan License Lottery

The Passenger Transportation Regulatory Division will be conducting a lottery to distribute 17 luxury limousine sedan licenses as follows:

  • Eleven (11) licenses for individuals or companies who currently hold a for hire limousine license
  • Six (6) to applicants who are not holders of a current and valid limousine for hire license.

Applications will only be accepted from Monday, April 2, 2018 until Monday May 21, 2018 at 4:00 p.m.

Those interested in participating in the lottery are encouraged to read the lottery guidelines to familiarize themselves with the rules and requirements of the lottery prior to submitting an application.

Consumers may file online complaints against for-hire transportation providers. Information contained in complaints is public information and is included in the dispute resolution process.

For-Hire Vehicle Inspections

The County Code requires that any company or individual who seeks to provide transportation for compensation be licensed, drivers trained and insured, and the vehicles registered, insured and inspected.

The County’s For-Hire Vehicle Inspection Station is located at 2615 NW 10 Avenue Miami, FL 33127


Approximately 44 passenger service companies operate taxicabs in Miami-Dade County including wheel-chair accessible vehicles.
