Transportation Network Entities (TNE) preliminary license applications
On May 3, 2016, Ordinance 16-42 was adopted providing for the licensing and regulation of Transportation Network Entities (TNE) as well as TNE drivers and vehicles. The ordinance provides for the issuance of preliminary licenses after the effective date of this ordinance. These preliminary licenses will be valid for 30 days. The Department of Transportation and Public Works will be accepting TNE preliminary license applications beginning Monday, May 16, 2016. The application form can be obtained online or at our office located at 601 NW 1st Ct., 18th Floor, Miami, FL 33136. Applications may be submitted by mail or delivered in person to the same address, or submitted by email.

The For-Hire Transportation and Omit Division licenses and regulates taxicabs, limousines, passenger motor carriers (including jitneys and tour vans), special transportation service vehicles, non-emergency transportation services, for-hire chauffeurs, and ambulance services. For-hire vehicles, as well as private school buses, are inspected for safety and appearance at our vehicle inspection station. the division maintains an extensive chauffeur training schedule for new and renewing for-hire chauffeurs.

For-Hire Transportation Complaints
For-Hire Transportation Complaints relate to complaints about the for-hire transportation industry. Please note that this does not include Movers and Towers, which fall under the second general category. It also does not include the public transportation services. Consumers filing online complaints are asked to use the last four digits of their home telephone number as a Temporary Complaint Number and to write this number on any supporting documentation they send to the Mediation Center. A permanent number will be assigned after the complaint is received. Information contained in complaints becomes public information and will be forwarded to the business as part of the dispute resolution process.

The Code of Miami-Dade County requires that any company or individual who seeks to provide transportation for compensation be licensed, their drivers trained and insured, and their vehicles registered, insured and inspected.

A taxicab is a for-hire motor vehicle which transports eight passengers or less (exclusive of the driver) and provides either street hail or pre-arranged taxicab service. It is equipped with a taximeter, and the passenger controls the route and destination.
