For-Hire Transportation

The For-Hire application fees are non-refundable, unless otherwise stated, and are separate from the annual license fee, inspection fees and Local Business Tax Receipt which will be required upon approval.

Cash payment are not accepted. Fees can be paid by check, money order or cashier’s check made payable to the Miami-Dade County We also accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. 

Individuals who attend for-hire chauffeur classes are required to take and pass an exam administered by the County.

Beginning August 1, 2022, PMC, STS and NE training manuals and exams will be available in English, Spanish and Creole.

Taxicab and Limousine Advisory Group (TAG) (LAG) duties include developing, implementing and evaluating recommendations for new innovative services, and service expansion and improvements. These recommendations are discussed with DTPW, which studies their feasibility. Board positions to be filled are as follows:

• Consumer: Four (4) positions available.  Two (2) for TAG; two (2) for LAG.
• For-Hire Medallion/Limo Permit Holder not an owner driver: Five (5) position available. Two (2) available for TAG; Three (3) positions for LAG.
• Full-time Chauffeur no ownership interest in a medallion/limousine permit: Six (6) positions available. Three positions each for TAG and LAG.
• Passenger Service Company Principal: One (1) position available.
• Full-Time Chauffeur Owner-Driver: One (1) position available.

Interested applicants must provide background information, qualifications and list the reasons why they should be selected. Applicants are also encouraged to submit a resume. Applications are also available on the 18th floor at the Consumer Protection office.

The Inspection Station will receive customers Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. All vehicles presented for re-inspection must have a copy of its certificate of insurance and vehicle registration present at the time of inspection. However, if you are placing a new vehicle in service or replacing your current vehicle, you will have to bring the vehicle for inspection before 1 p.m. Below are procedures for for-hire vehicles initially being place into service.

Please make sure that you have with you a copy of the vehicle registration and insurance certificate. Existing for-hire license holders placing a new vehicle into service.

Vehicle Inspection Fees

• New vehicle inspection $70
• Quarterly, semi-annual or annual vehicle inspection, as applicable (all categories) $38

*There is a replacement fee for lost, stolen or destroyed operating permits or decals.

• Transportation Network Companies (TNC)

A Transportation Network Company vehicle or TNC vehicle is a vehicle that is not a taxicab, jitney, limousine, or for-hire vehicle and are governed by the State of Florida, Department of Financial Services.

A Transportation Network Company vehicle or TNC vehicle is a vehicle that is not a taxicab, jitney, limousine, or for-hire vehicle.

Examples of TNC vehicles are those used by drivers working for ride share companies.

State law states that all TNCs, TNC drivers and TNC vehicles are governed exclusively by the State which preempted any county, municipality, special district, airport authority, port authority or other local government entity or subdivision from imposing any license fees.

Also according to State law, a TNC driver shall; not accept a ride for compensation other than by a rider arranged through a digital network, shall not solicit or accept street hails, shall not alter the presentation of information on its digital network to an enforcement official for the purpose of thwarting or interfering.

The bill defines a “digital network” as any online-enabled technology application service, website, or system offered or used by a transportation network company which enables the prearrangement of rides with transportation network company drivers.

“A prearranged ride” means the provision of transportation by a TNC driver to a rider, beginning when a TNC driver accepts a ride requested by a rider through a digital network controlled by a transportation network company, continuing while the TNC driver transports the rider, and ending when the last rider exits from and is no longer occupying the TNC vehicle.
