Corrections and Rehabilitation
The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department operates the eighth largest jail system in the country. There are between 4,300 to 4,500 persons incarcerated daily in our four detention facilities. These persons are awaiting trial, serving sentences of 364 days or less.

Daniel Junior named Director
Mr. Junior has been selected by Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to serve as Director of the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department.

Prison Rape Elimination Act
Congress passed the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), which applies to every person incarcerated in a U.S. correctional institution – federal prisons, state prisons, jails, private facilities, lock-ups, juvenile facilities, and immigration detention centers. The law applies to multiple forms of sexual violence, including coercion by staff or other incarcerated people.
The Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) has successfully passed its PREA Audit (9.4 MB).
MDCR has established a “Zero Tolerance” for inmate sexual assault/abuse and shall make every effort to provide all inmates with a safe, humane and secure environment, free from the threat of sexual assault/abuse and staff sexual misconduct/harassment. All incidents of MDCR staff sexual misconduct/harassment shall be reported to the MDCR Security and Internal Affairs Bureau at 786-263-6500.
Property Room Hours of Operation
The Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center's Property Room is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.
Inmate Search Feature
The Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation Department now offers online Inmate in Custody Search. Entering a last name in the search feature will display a list of individuals in custody by name, date of birth, race, sex, location, charges, bond amount, jail number, booking date and a photograph of the person.

Inmate Phone System
Family and friends can now start a new phone account through the Family Prepaid Program provided by GTL. You can also contact GTL to block inmate telephone calls. Learn more about the Inmate Phone System.
Juveniles arrested in Miami-Dade County are processed through the Juvenile Services Department.
Licensed Bond Personnel Procedures
It is expected that all bond agencies, agents and associations adhere to procedures governed by the State Licensing Board and the Department.
