Register Your Business

Choose a Name

You can start your business name research at the Florida Division of Corporations. They offer a free online search so that you can ensure that the name you've selected is available for registration.

Fictitious Name Requirements

A fictitious name (or assumed name, trade name or DBA name, which is short for "doing business as") is a business name that is different from your personal name, the names of your partners or the officially registered name of your LLC or corporation. (Source: U.S. Small Business Administration)

If you will be operating under a fictitious name, you will have to register that name with the Division of Corporations.

Tax Registration

You will need to obtain the necessary forms from Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and the Internal Revenue Service.

County Taxes
Any person doing business in Miami-Dade County must obtain a Miami-Dade County Local Business Tax Receipt (formerly known as occupational license). Businesses also need to obtain a city Business Tax Receipt from the municipality where the business is located.

State Taxes
Depending on your business, you may be required to register to collect, accrue and remit certain taxes or fees if you are engaged in any of the activities associated with each tax or fee. You must register with the Florida Department of Revenue before you begin your business activities
