Fictitious Name Requirements
A fictitious name (or assumed name, trade name or DBA name, which is short for "doing business as") is a business name that is different from your personal name, the names of your partners or the officially registered name of your LLC or corporation. (Source: U.S. Small Business Administration)
If you will be operating under a fictitious name, you will have to register that name with the Division of Corporations.
Tax RegistrationYou will need to obtain the necessary forms from Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and the Internal Revenue Service.
Any person doing business in Miami-Dade County must obtain a Miami-Dade County Local Business Tax Receipt (formerly known as occupational license). Businesses also need to obtain a city Business Tax Receipt from the municipality where the business is located.
Depending on your business, you may be required to register to collect, accrue and remit certain taxes or fees if you are engaged in any of the activities associated with each tax or fee. You must register with the Florida Department of Revenue before you begin your business activities
Federal Tax Identification
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses need an EIN. For more information visit the IRS online.
There are several types of structures, each with its own benefits and limitations. While it can be changed later, it is far easier to make this decision correctly at the start.

- Sole Proprietorship
- General Partnership
- Limited Partnership
- Limited Liability Company
- Limited Liability Partnership
