Cartage/Trucking Permits

In order to conduct business at PortMiami in accordance with rules and requirements of the Port Tariff Adobe Acrobat Logo, the Port Director and the Miami-Dade County Code.

Requirements

To obtain a permit, cartage/trucking companies must submit the following documentation:
  • Proof of Insurance
    • Worker’s Compensation Insurance for all employees of the Contractor as required by Florida Statute, Chapter 44, including coverage under the U.S. Longshoremen and Harbor Workers' Act (USLH) and/or Jones Act, as applicable for any activities on or about navigable water.  
    • Commercial General Liability Insurance in an amount not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence, and $2,000,000 in the aggregate, not to exclude coverage for Products and Completed Operations.  Miami-Dade County must be shown as an additional insured with respect to this coverage
    • Automobile Liability Insurance covering all owned, non-owned and hired vehicles used in connection with the work, in an amount not less than $1,000,000 combined single limit per occurrence for bodily injury and property damage
  • Business License/Articles of Incorporation
  • Proof of Operating Authority (MC Number) with U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

Permit Fees

  • $400 processing fee and $500 permit
  • Permit renewals not received by the expiration date are considered late and the initial processing fee is required for reinstatement

Pre-paid Scale Program

PortMiami offers a Pre-paid Scale Program, which significantly reduces waiting times at the cargo gates. While drivers have the option of paying cash at the gate at a price of $15 per entry, enrolling in the automatic Pre-paid Scale Program enables you to use any of the Port's inbound scaled cargo lanes at a cost of $12 per usage.
