About the Internal Services Department
The new Internal Services Department is a combination of the former General Services Administration, the Department of Procurement Management, and the Construction and Special Project functions of the Office of Capital Improvements. Some of the long-term benefits of this departmental structure include:
- More focus on countywide construction management with the intent that over time other such functions within the County can be consolidated;
- The possible consolidation of the Inventory Management and Procurement functions for better materials management and,
- Opportunities for review of a truly centralized fleet management model.
Lester Sola was appointed Director of the Internal Services Department on October of 2011. The Internal Services Department is responsible for the Procurement of Goods and Services, Architectural and Engineering selection, Capital Improvements, Design and Construction, Facilities and Fleet Management, Risk Management, and Employee Benefits. Mr. Sola oversees an operating budget of $300 million and a capital budget of $81 million and manages over 1,000 employees.
About Americans with Disabilities Act Coordination
The Miami-Dade County Office of ADA Coordination works to bring Miami-Dade County into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and, at the same time, heightens awareness of disability issues, within County departments and the community.
About Architectural & Engineering
The Professional Services Division is responsible for providing guidance to County departments on professional architectural and engineering services, the acquisition, negotiations, and contracting of same.
About Commission on Disability Issues
The Commission on Disability Issues (CODI) is an official advisory board to the Miami-Dade County Commission. County ordinance requires that all applicants be approved by CODI before being submitted for final selection by the County Commission.
