Top Ten Reasons to Try Transit

Gas prices climbing back up? Transit is still the great deal it¹s always been. Isn¹t it time to reconsider your commute? If you¹ve got cold feet, here are ten reasons to help you decide.

1. The high price of “Paying Through The Hose”

One look at today’s gas prices (check out the sidebar) might be all you need to hop aboard and discover what you’ve been missing. A 1-Month Pass on an EASY Card could cost you just a little more than a tank of gas. Calculate how much you can save here.

2. Bus Rapid Transit takes you there faster

Express Metrobus routes such as the Dade-Broward 95 Express, Busway Flyer and Kendall Cruiser make fewer stops on their way to important commuter destinations, often on dedicated or managed roadways (say goodbye to those $7 tolls!).

3. You could qualify for even more savings

Our Corporate and College Discount Programs provide additional savings to qualified transit riders.

4. Metrorail is now flying to MIA

If business takes you out of town, Metrorail’s new Orange Line to the new state-of-the-art Miami International Airport Station may be the best thing that’s happened to your itinerary. Just $2.25 a trip lets you bypass the terminal traffic nightmares and get to your flight in comfort. If you still need to drive to catch the train, you can leave the car overnight or for multiple consecutive nights at Earlington Heights, Okeechobee and South Miami stations for just $4.50 a night, prepaid at the Transit Store.

5. Drive less and pay less for parking

Park for a month at a Metrorail station for only $11.25 with a 1-Month Pass on your EASY Card. Or park free at any of our conveniently-located Park & Ride Lots served by major Metrobus routes.

6. The EASY Card is just that!

The EASY Card lets you hop aboard with just a tap on a Metrobus farebox or Metrorail faregate.

7. The Emergency Ride Home program gives you peace of mind

Your sick child won’t have to wait for you to catch a bus in the middle of the day. As a transit rider you can register with South Florida Commuter Services for six free taxi rides a year at  (with two stops per ride) in the event of an emergency.

8. Cool web tools help you plan your trip

Our Miami-Dade Transit Tracker App puts accurate, real-time Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover information at your fingertips.

Train Tracker lets you know when the next three Metrorail trains are due at the station of your choice. And the Google-powered Trip Planner gives you three mapped routes to get you where you want to go (try them both, they’re in the sidebar).

You can also sign up for real time alerts to your inbox or smart phone via text or email.

9. Free Wi-Fi lets you surf while you ride

Metrorail, Metromover and a growing number of Metrobus routes now feature free Wi-Fi connectivity on board. So you can actually get a head start on your workday while your coworkers are still fuming behind the wheel.

10. It’s the green way to go

Our new 40- and 60-foot diesel/electric hybrid buses are high-tech marvels that make your trip a breeze while shrinking your carbon footprint.

Your bike is welcome on Metrobus (all our buses are equipped with bike racks), Metrorail and Metromover. Or you can chain your bike at any Metrorail station (some stations feature bike lockers for rent).
