We the readers: Honoring 250 years through reading

Join the Miami-Dade Public Library System’s 2026 Summer Reading Challenge and celebrate America’s 250th birthday! From June 1 through August 1, children and teens can read, learn and have fun at the library while earning weekly rewards.

This year's theme, We the Readers, invites children and teens ages 18 years and younger to explore stories, cultures and experiences that have shaped our nation and bring its vibrant history to life. Participants may read whatever subject they choose — all reading counts!

Here’s how you can participate:

• Visit any Miami-Dade Public Library System location to join the challenge, pick up a Summer Reading & Activity Log and register for the grand prize drawing
• Read books and attend library programs to earn weekly rewards
• Track your progress in your Summer Reading & Activity Log
• Complete all eight weekly challenges and earn a Reading Achiever Medal

Participating in the Summer Reading Challenge is a fun way to beat the “summer slide” and help prevent learning loss during the school break. Reading for just 20 minutes a day helps strengthen vocabulary, spark imagination and boost brainpower.
