Miami-Dade Public Library System to celebrate groundbreaking for new Key Biscayne Branch Library
On Tuesday, May 26, at 9 a.m., Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County District 7 Commissioner Raquel A. Regalado, Village of Key Biscayne Mayor Joe I. Rasco, and the Miami-Dade Public Library System will break ground on the new replacement Key Biscayne Branch Library.
The state-of-the-art two-story, 20,000-square-foot facility will be built on the site of the current library at 299 Crandon Boulevard, which first opened on January 12, 1985, after Key Biscayne residents successfully petitioned the Miami-Dade County Commission to replace the island’s twice-weekly bookmobile service with a permanent branch library.
Designed to meet the evolving needs of the growing community, the replacement library will be nearly three times larger than the existing branch. It will feature expanded spaces for library programs and community gatherings, updated technology, enhanced library services, and modern amenities for residents of all ages.
Highlights include a YOUmedia technology center for teens, a sensory-friendly space, study and multipurpose rooms, a preserved pond and enhanced landscaping, electric vehicle charging stations, golf cart parking, rooftop solar panels, and a sustainable design targeting LEED Silver certification.
The project is expected to be completed in 2028. For more information and project renderings, visit www.mdpls.org/KBBranchDesign.
During construction, residents may visit the temporary Key Biscayne Branch Library, located at Key Colony Plaza, 200 Crandon Boulevard, #101.
