Phase 2 - Goulds Heritage Resource Survey

The Office of Historic Preservation is conducting a Heritage Resource Survey of the Goulds community. This survey hopes to expand documentation of this historic community to incorporate sites of importance to share a fuller history representative of this diverse community. This is a chance to share memories of places and structures from Goulds that are important to you or your community. These may be sites that are significant to individuals and the community's history, including houses, churches, playgrounds, schools, cemeteries, businesses, and other locations linked to the history and heritage of the community.

The original structures need not be standing at the present for you to document them in the survey. If a site was the location of a significant event or the previous location of a structure that holds historic significance but is no longer there, we encourage you to share your story with us.

All groups are welcome to participate to help shed light on places associated with Native American and Indigenous heritage, African American and Black heritage, women’s heritage, LGBTQ+ heritage, Asian American heritage, and religious minorities within the Goulds community.

The Goulds Historic Resource Survey project comprises an effort in support of Miami-Dade County’s ongoing effort to address the lack of documentation and raise awareness of historic resources associated with historically excluded groups.

The Goulds community was noted early in the Phase I Heritage survey, recognizing the need for a more in-depth survey and research of the area to reconcile and update the documentation of its historic resources.

The objective of the Phase II Goulds Heritage survey is to identify resources, notable people, and places that can help to tell a more inclusive story of the Goulds community, which incorporates resources and information that may extend to neighboring areas to best share the important places and events that have impacted the Goulds community.
