Unleashing Innovation

Innovation can happen anywhere. And by announcing the Miami-Dade Innovation Authority, we’re working to make sure it happens right here in our county.
The Innovation Authority – a nonprofit established in partnership with seed funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Citadel CEO Ken Griffin – will provide grants to companies working to solve pressing local challenges in climate, health, housing, transit, and more. Companies will be invited to pilot new technologies with the County – fast-tracking ideas to key problems our community faces.

With pilot programs and an openness to creative solutions, we are flipping the way government does business by inviting businesses to test and pilot WITH us. This approach will fast-forward local innovation and give entrepreneurs a path to scale. We’ll make it faster and easier to innovate in the County and further position Miami-Dade as a world-class destination for high-growth companies.

The Innovation Authority will work hand in hand with private sector funders to support startups, leveraging public and private dollars to maximize impact. With this innovative model, we’ll dedicate seed funding to solve our community’s biggest challenges, while creating a path for entrepreneurs to unlock private dollars and test their technologies at scale.
