• What is Project Green Light Miami-Dade (PGLMD)?

  • PGLMD is a police-community partnership that focuses on improving community safety and promoting business growth by installing high-definition cameras at participating businesses that feed directly into the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center. The camera feeds will help the police deter and solve crime, making the partnered business and the surrounding community safer

• Has Project Green Light been effective so far?

  • Project Green Light (PGL) Detroit originated on Jan. 1, 2016 in Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit Police Department partnered with eight gas stations that installed real-time camera connections with police headquarters as part of a groundbreaking crime-fighting partnership between local businesses. To date, PGL Detroit has over 800 partners and has seen a significant reduction in violent crimes

• What is required to be a PGLMD Participating Business?

  Businesses must enter into an agreement with Miami-Dade County (MDC) and follow all requirements listed below.

  • Must have a minimum of four high-definition cameras approved by PGLMD
  • Must have an approved flashing green light. This signifies to your customers that you are a PGLMD Partner
  • Must have the PGLMD signage posted and visible to customers
  • Must have the MDC “We Care” sign posted outside your business
  • Must have adequate lighting outside your business

• How much does it cost to be a part of PGLMD?

  • The cost of four cameras, their materials, and installation ranges from $10,000-$12,000. The cost of the camera system depends on the specific needs of your business, as well as the approved vendor of your choice
  • One flashing green light is required. The cost is approximately $205
  • Two signs are required for PGLMD (The PGLMD and the MDC “We Care” sign)
    • The bundled package for both signs is approximately $65. If the signs are purchased individually, the approximate cost is $35. These estimates exclude any shipping costs

• Is there financial assistance for PGLMD Partners?

  • Grant Applicant: The County will cover the cost of onboarding eligible small mom and pop businesses up to $10,000, including the equipment and signage
  • Non-grant Applicant: Businesses not eligible for the grant are responsible for covering the full cost of permits, signs, cameras and installation

• What are the eligibility criteria for financial assistance?

  • The business is located and operating in Miami-Dade County Unincorporated Municipal Service Area
  • The business employs fewer than 25 employees/independent contractors
  • At the time of submitting this application, the business must have been in operation for at least two years
  • The business’ annual gross revenue must be less than $2 million per year for the past three years
  • The credit scores for each Director/Officer must be greater than 575 with no bankruptcies or foreclosures in the last 3 years

• Are there permits required for PGLMD?

  • A permit is required for the camera installation, and for the flashing green light

• Does the program require internet?

  • Yes, the program requires a high-speed network connection capable of allowing consistent video streaming of at least 50 Mbps download/10 Mbps upload internet speeds

• Can I use my existing camera system as part of PGLMD?

  • PGLMD requires specific high-definition cameras (1080p) that are compatible with the Miami-Dade Police Department's Real-Time Crime Center. An inspection team will determine whether your existing system is compatible

• If I am a PGLMD Partner, do I still have to call 911?

  • In the event of an emergency, call 911. The Miami-Dade Police Department will be aware that your business is a PGLMD Partner

• Are the PGLMD cameras continuously monitored?

  • No, cameras will be monitored regularly by the Miami-Dade Police Department's Real-Time Crime Center. However, when 911 is called, the police will know you are a PGLMD Partner
