Miami-Dade County to accept donations for Hurricane Fiona relief efforts

Following the devastation brought by Hurricane Fiona, Miami-Dade County, in partnership with Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), is accepting donations for the relief efforts in order to assist those impacted by the storm. Three drop-off locations, including two Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) fire stations and the GEM warehouse, have been set up to receive donations until Monday, Oct. 3.

The items accepted for donations are the following: 

  • Non-perishable food items (canned goods with peel-off tops are ideal)
  • Baby food (no glass)
  • Cereals
  • Nutrition bars
  • Portable/purified water
  • Water purification kits or items
  • Water bladders
  • Water containers
  • Personal hygiene kits (diapers, baby wipes, sanitary napkins, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, baby formula)
  • First aid items (sterile bandages/gauze [all sizes], tape)
  • Portable single and double burner stoves
  • Portable outdoor lamps/lights
  • Solar lanterns
  • Flashlights
  • New blankets
  • Sleeping bags
  • Cots (adult size)
  • Air mattresses
  • Tents
  • Insect repellents
  • Portable radios/weather radios
  • Batteries
  • Portable potty
  • Rain gear
  • Cleaning supplies/disinfectants (bleach, brooms, mops, household cleaning products, garbage bags)
  • Portable generators (15 kw to 25kw)
  • Chainsaws
  • Plastic tarps
  • Debris removal tools (shovels, rakes, axes, wheelbarrows)

Relief donations are accepted at the following drop-off locations:

  • MDFR Fire Station 1: 16599 NW 67th Avenue, Miami Lakes, FL 33014 (Monday to Sunday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • MDFR Fire Station 34: 10850 SW 211th Street, Cutler Bay, FL 33189 (Monday to Sunday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) Warehouse: 1810 NW 94th Avenue, Doral, FL 33172 (Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

Monetary donations are preferred and are being accepted by several organizations.

  • United Way Operation Helping Hands to receive financial donations
  • The Archdiocese of Miami is collecting financial donations
  • Food for the Poor is collecting monetary donations for Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Haiti
  • The Salvation Army is collecting monetary donations for Puerto Rico
  • Third Wave Volunteers has deployed volunteers and is collecting monetary donations for Puerto Rico
  • Project Hope is collecting monetary donations for Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic
  • Neighbors for Neighbors is collecting monetary donations for Puerto Rico and other nations impacted by Hurricane Fiona
