          MIAMI-DADE ( May 05, 2023 )–

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the Covid-19 pandemic no longer represents a “world health emergency.” Miami-Dade County is also demobilizing the County’s remaining COVID testing and vaccination programs in preparation for the expiration of the federal public health emergency on May 11, 2023.

COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites still operating under a partnership between Miami-Dade County and Nomi Health have been ramping down operations over the last few weeks, and all sites will be closed as of Saturday, May 6.

“I am enormously proud of our extraordinary response to the Covid-19 pandemic by putting in place and scaling effective public health programs, partnering closely with our cities and local businesses to protect residents and visitors, and keeping our economy moving forward,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.  “We are also very proud of our residents who stepped up to protect themselves, their families and neighbors. As we look to the future, we will continue to invest in the public health infrastructure that we built during the pandemic and remain vigilant against future variants and other possible public health challenges.”

Through the dedicated efforts of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Miami-Dade Police Department, emergency management personnel and healthcare workers, Miami-Dade County built and scaled a communitywide vaccination campaign – prioritizing vaccination for the most vulnerable including seniors, launching mobile units to bring vaccines to all corners of the community, and knocking on approximately 200,000 doors in under-vaccinated neighborhoods. Thanks to these efforts, over 2 million people in were vaccinated and the County achieved one of the highest vaccination rates in the state and nation.

"It has been an honor for Nomi Health to be able to service Miami-Dade County alongside countless agencies and our community leaders. We are grateful for their partnership and support, making such a significant community impact possible,” said Ron Goncalves, President & General Manager, Florida Nomi Health.

During the last year Miami-Dade County and Nomi Health maintained continuous, free COVID testing and vaccine access for residents longer than many jurisdictions nationwide to support access to these vital services.

While residents may still be affected by COVID-19, we urge the community to remain vigilant by staying informed and continuing to follow all recommended safety precautions. Residents can continue to access at-home tests available for sale at local pharmacies and online.
