Statement by Mayor Daniella Levine Cava on the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism
Today, President Biden announced the first ever national strategy to combat antisemitism focused on the following four pillars: increase awareness and understanding of antisemitism, including its threat to America, and broaden appreciation of Jewish American heritage; improve safety and security for Jewish communities; reverse the normalization of antisemitism and counter antisemitic discrimination; and, build cross-community solidarity and collective action to counter hate. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava released the following statement in response to the new national strategy:
“As the first Jewish mayor of Miami-Dade County, I’m deeply aware of the challenges the Jewish community faces in Miami-Dade and around the world – and committed to finding ways to counter hate and ensure the safety of all people.
“President Biden’s announcement speaks to a deep national commitment to build a more inclusive and caring America. Antisemitism and all acts of hatred and bigotry cut especially close to Miami-Dade – a diverse region home to a strong, vibrant Jewish community – and we stand united with this national effort to take bold action.
“Here in Miami-Dade, we’re working with all our cities and the dedicated men and women of law enforcement to build a more welcoming, tolerant county, and to identify and bring to justice all those who perpetuate acts of targeted hate. Together, we will put an end to antisemitism and hate in all its forms.”
