Miami-Dade County Internal Services Department to host ADA Celebration events July 25-28
The Miami-Dade County Internal Services Department (ISD) American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Office will host special events from Tuesday, July 25th to Friday, July 28th, 2023, to celebrate the 33-year anniversary of the historic signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
This civil rights law was created to protect the rights of people with disabilities. It prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have equal access to employment opportunities, goods and services, state and local government programs, businesses that are open to the public, commercial facilities, transportation providers, and telecommunications.
Residents, visitors and employees of Miami-Dade County are encouraged to join us during these special events. The Stephen P. Clark Government Center will transform into an ADA hub between July 25th and 27th, with information and celebratory activities to raise disability awareness. Highlight activities include an inclusive Zot Artz project that will invite all members of the community to participate, a mobile library featuring memoirs written by people with disabilities, live performances by artists with and without disabilities, and special guest speakers.
On July 28th, there will be a Disability Resource Fair at the Miami-Dade Main Library with over 47 organizations, a presentation on “Becoming Your Own Best Advocate” by Miami-Dade County ADA Coordinator, Heidi Johnson, and a book reading of The Adventures of Katgirl by its author, Katherine Magnoli.
For more information, please contact Ms. Jody Cox, ADA Office, at 786-564-2572 (call or text) or email at [email protected].
