February 20: deadline to register to vote and make party changes for Presidential Preference Primary Election
The State of Florida voter registration and political party change deadline for the March 19th Presidential Preference Primary Election is Tuesday, February 20th. Voters are encouraged not to wait to register to vote or make political party changes.
Registration and changes can be made in one of the following ways:
- Online at https://registertovoteflorida.gov/home
- In person or by mail, if it is postmarked by February 20th:
- Elections Department Main Office, 2700 NW 87 Avenue, Miami, FL 33172, which will remain open on Tuesday, February 20th from 8 a.m. – Midnight
- Elections Department Branch Office, Stephen P. Clark Center Lobby, 111 NW 1 Street, Miami, FL 33128 will be open on Monday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Voters can check their current voter registration status, view their customized sample ballot, and confirm their current Election Day voting location using the Voter Information tool.
It is important for voters to know their party affiliation because Florida is a closed primary State, meaning that only voters who are registered members of a political party may vote in their respective party’s primary election.
This year, only the Republican Party will hold a Presidential Preference Primary Election to select their presidential nominee on March 19, 2024.
The Florida Democratic Party provided only one candidate as their presidential nominee. Therefore, a primary election ballot for the Florida Democratic Party is not needed. Consequently, Democrats and voters with no party affiliation are not eligible to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary Election.
However, all registered voters residing in South Miami and Surfside are eligible to vote on March 19th on their municipal ballot content, regardless of party affiliation.
For more information, review the March 19th Presidential Preference Primary Election Sample Ballot, visit www.miamidade.gov/elections or call 311.
