          Press Release department /global/transportation/home.page 2024-03-20 2024-03-20T12:00:00.000Z 08 00 am Calvin Sykes [email protected] 786-720-9248 Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works receives $16.7 Million in earmarks for roadway improvements, safety and planning projects thanks to Miami-Dade congressional delegation The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is proud to announce that it has received $16.7 million in federal earmarks for projects supporting critical roadway improvements and Vision Zero safety initiatives, in addition to a master station planning study to reconnect displaced communities to education, health, employment, and entertainment hubs. <p>The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is proud to announce that it has received $16.7 million in federal earmarks for projects supporting critical roadway improvements and Vision Zero safety initiatives, in addition to a master station planning study to reconnect displaced communities to education, health, employment, and entertainment hubs. These earmarks, secured as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Community Project Funding request process, represent a significant milestone in advancing the County's commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure, promoting safe mobility options for all users.</p> <p>&ldquo;These funds represent a significant investment in the safety and well-being of Miami-Dade residents,&rdquo; said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. &ldquo;As we continue to build a future-ready community, we are grateful to our Congressional delegation for securing important resources that will not only improve important roads and increase safety, but also offer better mobility options to communities that have been historically left behind.&rdquo;</p> <p>Miami-Dade&rsquo;s congressional delegation includes Representatives Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (FL-23), Frederica Wilson (FL-24), Mario Diaz Balart (FL-25), Carlos Gimenez (FL-26), and Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27). Representative Gimenez secured $9 million for roadway improvement and resurfacing projects. Representative Diaz-Balart secured nearly $8 million for roadway resurfacing projects and Vision Zero safety improvements. Representative Wilson secured $500,000 for the &ldquo;Reconnecting Communities: Station Area Master Analysis&rdquo; project.</p> <p>&ldquo;These earmarks signify a tremendous investment in the future of transportation safety and accessibility in Miami-Dade County,&rdquo; stated Jimmy Morales, Chief Operations Officer for Miami-Dade County. &ldquo;Through strategic collaboration and advocacy efforts, our County team was successful in obtaining needed funding for quick implementation projects, addressing pressing safety and mobility needs.&rdquo;</p> <p>The earmarked funds will support a range of essential projects, including roadway widening to alleviate traffic congestion, signal modernization, stormwater drainage, and installation of high visibly crosswalks and pedestrian hybrid beacons to reduce accidents and fatalities at select intersections.&nbsp; The funds will also support a planning study to reconnect communities displaced from transit and economic opportunities.           The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) is proud to announce that it has received $16.7 million in federal earmarks for projects supporting critical roadway improvements and Vision Zero safety initiatives, in addition to a master station planning study to reconnect displaced communities to education, health, employment, and entertainment hubs.
