First-ever Miami-Dade County Mayor’s Legacy in Arts Award recognizes a cultural leader at the 2024 Serving the Arts Awards ceremony
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 9:30 a.m., the 2024 Serving the Arts Awards will be held at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, 2901 West Flagler Street. The awards ceremony will celebrate 27 cultural leaders and organizations for their continued commitment to advancing arts and culture in Miami-Dade County. This year, the inaugural Miami-Dade County Mayor’s Legacy in Arts Award Honoree is cultural leader Rosie Gordon-Wallace, President and Curator of the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator. The Mayor’s Legacy in Arts Award recognizes Gordon-Wallace in recognition of her extraordinary service in the arts in Miami-Dade County through her outstanding work promoting, nurturing, and cultivating diverse talents of emerging artists from the Caribbean Diaspora, artists of color, and immigrant artists.
“I am pleased to honor Rosie Gordon-Wallace as the recipient of the first-ever Mayor’s Legacy in Arts Award,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Our community is recognized across the globe as an arts and cultural capital with artists that showcase their creativity with a unique Miami flair. For over two decades, her work has nurtured and developed diverse voices in the arts and has been instrumental in making our community the international artistic center it is today.”
The 2024 Serving the Arts Awards event begins with a networking reception at 9:30 a.m. The awards ceremony begins at 10:15 a.m. Other honorees include Lifetime Achievement Awardee Monty Trainer, Cultural Catalyst Awardee Susan Westfall, and Emerging Legend Awardee Franklin Sirmans, Director of the Pérez Art Museum Miami. The event is produced by the Arts and Business Council of Miami in partnership with the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau. Tickets to attend are $25. Scholarships available for select Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs grantees and Miami Emerging Arts Leaders.
