Miami-Dade County to host CoMotion and NACTO Designing Cities Conference for Mobility Week, May 6 to 10
Miami-Dade County will be at the center of the mobility and transportation world when Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) present Mobility Week, from May 6 to 10. During this week, there will be two conferences showcasing cutting-edge urban mobility solutions. The week will begin with CoMotion, and the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) Designing Cities Conferences, which will be held in the southeastern U.S. for the first time in its history.
“As we kick off Mobility week, Miami-Dade County stands at the forefront of a global conversation about the future of transportation,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Our partnership with CoMotion and the NACTO Designing Cities Conference exemplifies our commitment to embracing innovation and collaboration in shaping sustainable, accessible cities for all. By hosting these prestigious events, we are not only showcasing our progress but also learning from global leaders and experts, driving us closer to our vision of a smarter, more connected community.”
CoMotion Miami is a two-day gathering from May 6 – 7, with a focus on forging connections between mobility innovators and urban policymakers. The event will feature lively panels, interactive workshops, demonstrations, networking sessions, and conversations with global mayors, public transportation operators, technology founders, investors, and policymakers.
The theme for CoMotion’24 is “integrating innovation,” reflecting Miami-Dade’s pioneering spirit in adopting cutting-edge mobility technologies such as autonomous light-rail and clean shore power initiatives at PortMiami. It will take place at Miami Dade College’s renowned Wolfson Campus in the heart of Downtown Miami.
The Designing Cites Conference, from May 7 – 10, is a world-renowned event that will feature global features in urban planning, transportation, and innovation, highlighting the county’s progress under the leadership of Mayor Levine Cava and DTPW Director and CEO, Eulois Cleckley.
The conference is an opportunity to showcase Miami-Dade County’s commitment to build safe, sustainable, and accessible transportation options, including achievements like securing $16.2 million USDOT Safe Streets for All Vision Zero grant, $3M in Federal Community Project Funding and $2.7M in Highway Safety Improvement Program aimed at improving pedestrian and bicycle safety at 27 of the top 100 high injury locations, and $1.98 million USDOT SMART grant for urban mobility projects, the SMART Program, and the launching of services such as MetroConnect and MetroConnect AV. NACTO will take place at Intercontinental Miami with “walkshops” taking place throughout the community.
“These major gatherings occurring in Miami-Dade are an affirmation we are on the right track in expanding equitable and innovative transportation and mobility solutions. We have great success stories to share and an opportunity to hear and learn from global thought leaders and disruptors,” added Cleckley.
